Cheryl Cater (Thompson)
November 26, 1946 to May 10, 2025

It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Cheri Cater Thompson, a beloved soul whose time on this earth has touched countless lives. Cheri departed on May 10, 2025, after a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and love that will forever remain ingrained in our hearts.

Born on November 26, 1946, Cheri grew up in Spokane, where her journey of resilience and determination began.

Cheri went on to achieve remarkable milestones throughout her life. A 1965 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, she was looking forward to her 60th reunion this year. The majority of her working career was spent in the banking industry where she helped to break the glass ceiling for women in leadership. After many years at Old National Bank, she was instrumental in implementing the private banking department at Sterling Bank.

Beyond her professional achievements, Cheri was known for her relentless pursuit of knowledge and her love for horses and dogs. Rescuing dogs and horses was done with passion. Whether it was spending time with family and friends or simply enjoying the beauty of the world around her, Cheri embraced life with enthusiasm and compassion. Many family gatherings occurred through the years at Twin Lakes, ID and these were special times for Cheri.

Friendship was important to Cheri. Her circle of friends, vast and diverse, stood as a testament to her ability to connect with others. Cheri was always the one who remembered a birthday, lent a listening ear, or brought laughter into the lives of those who needed it most. She had a deep concern for Palestinians, world peace, and was a politically active Democrat.

Cheri is survived by her husband, Craig Thompson; daughter, Kelli Goodwin; and brothers, Ron Cater and Mark Marion.

At Cheri's request there will not be a formal service. In remembrance, donations can be made to Skydog Sanctuary Inc., 23823 Malibu Road, Box 357, Malibu, CA 90265.
